Fantastic Acheivments for our EBCC Kids

We have had quite a few of our riders racing at the top level regionally with some amazing results.

National Youth Series.
Both Hannah and Euan have been racing nationally with some really good results. Euan came 4th at Lichfield National and 3rd at Solihull, all the top three riders were very close.  Well done to all the kids that raced.
Town Centre Crit Races
Hannah came second at Otley in a very hard race At Brighouse Circuit Race she took a tumble at the last corner. Quite badly bruised and shaken, by the time she got herself up, she wasn't allowed to ride to the line

Robert S has taken to racing like a duck to water and is giving the top under 14's a fright. He was 8th at Otley and an amazing third at Brighouse.
Conor  placed 21st at otley in a very high calibre race and a 10th at Brighouse.

Joe came 8th at Brighouse with the biggest cheer of the night.

George rode at Brighouse but suffered a fall.

Well done to everybody that took place in the races. If nobody entered there wouldn't be any races.

Mike - The Olympic Torch Bearer

What an experience and atmosphere.  Members of club met at Leeds Town Hall on Monday 25th June 2012 early 6ish to see Mike carrier the torch for the first stage o the torch's journey from Leeds to Sheffield on day 38.  The weather was excellent.  Mike was already on the steps having photos, talking to the radio and looking the part.  The Radcliffe's had cycled in to Leeds from Horsforth, some of the kids were in school uniform having got permission to have a couple of hours off school.  Paul had made a banner, as had Rebecca and her sister, Helen had brought an even bigger one that we managed to attach to the railings.  Mikes torch was lit and he was the star attraction with the crowd applauding, then he was off with the gold streamers released at the same time.  There were other club members in the crowd who managed to get some excellent photos and were on EBCC face book page instantly.  After the crowds dispersed the EBCC crowd managed to get some excellent photos - with the Coca-Cola stand - and some added extras and went in search of some breakfast and time to chat before heading back to meet Mike with his distinguished torch.  The Lloyds interviewers were there for a quick chat with Mike and some photos more photos. 

I would like to say thank you to everyone who travelled from a far to Leeds to see Mike - it was an excellent experience and a moment Mike will remember forever.

Mike will be bring the torch to Club on 21st July 2012 where you can have your photo taken with the Torch and get the 'Star's' autograph.  Mike will also be modelling his Jimmy Saville Tracksuit !!!

Mike was mentioned on Look North with a quick glimpse of the kids and also had a mention with his photo in Tues edition of the YEP.  There are (or will be) photos on the forum picture book site. (You must be a member of forum and receive a password to view these)

EBCC's Rollers visit local school

What a fantastic day we have just had. A few EBCC volunteers took our competition rollers to St Paul's C of E School at Wibsey where years 1,2, & 3 tried roller racing for the first time. Many thanks to our BC young volunteers, Caitlin and George, together with Mike, and Helen and Fred Fox for helping today . The kids loved it. Special thanks to Harry Fox, the official starter - not bad for four!

Club Update - 1) Novice Racing on the 7th July and NO CLUB ON THE 14th July.

1) EBCC is running a 'Come and Try It' Race at Farsley Farfield School, Cote Lane, Leeds LS28 5ED  on the 7th July at 2pm as part of their summer fair. it will be just fun races for kids and parents and costs £1.50 to enter on the day. There will be medals and certificates for the top three in each race as well as certificates and little prizes for all. Racing on grass on any bike against similar ages to give a flavour of racing.

2) No CLUB on the 14th July as most of us are off to Olivers Mount in Scarborough for fun grass track racing as part of the Scarborough Festival of Cycling. Run jointly with the West Riding track league and EBCC, come and join us as there is local camping available. Check out the event website:http://www.scarboroughfestivalofcycling.co.uk/

EBCC Fountains Abbey Ride

What a great ride to Fountains Abbey today. Glorious weather,lovely company. Many thanks to the O'Connells for organising the route.

Yorkshire BSCA Grass Track

Well done to all who took part you all raced well. The weather was mainly kind to us today and the venue was good. Thanks to the organisers who were left with no choice but to swap venues at the last minuet. Matt & I were chatting when we got home about all the kids and would just like to say that they were all very well behaved and are all a credit to club.

There is a lot on this weekend so here goes! Please keep reading to the end as it's important stuff.

1) Saturday 16th June - Two Choices as no club.

Either: The BSCA Grass Track Race Champs at Beverley, a fantastic day out with lots of racing for kids and we are hoping for a big EBCC turnout. Venue: Longcroft School, Burton Road, Beverley HU17 7EJ starting at 11 am so be there for about 10. Under 13's and below use freewheel bikes and O15's use track bikes.     Entry Form is attached to the calendar entry.

2) Or: Bradford Cyclefest at Roberts Park See:     http://cyclefestbradford.org.uk/       for details.     Lots of fun cycling events including our cycling rollers. We want as many EBCC members who are not going to Beverley to come and support us at this event. Helpers would be appreciated as well.   

3) Our EBCC Ride out Knaresborough to Fountains Abbey.

Knaresborough - Fountains Abbey – Knaresborough

Approximately 32 miles

Start at Tentergate Lane (HG5 9BG) at the western end of Knaresborough.  There is ample parking on the public highway outside St Mary’s Primary School. 

 Kindly organised by Kevin and Janice O'Connell: We are planning to stop for lunch/picnic at the lakeside tea room, depending on the weather.  For car drivers there is a pay and display car park nearby which is free for National Trust members but costs about £3 for non-members.  The car park near the main entrance to Fountains Abbey is free to everybody but is further from the lakeside tea room.  The big café near the main car park may be a better place to have lunch if the weather is wet.  We can decide on the day. 4) Mike Healey's Olympic Torch relay Monday 25th June 7.17 am
Mike was nominated by our club for his services to EBCC saturday bike club and will be bearing the Olympic flame as touch bearer number one from outside the Leeds Town Hall and finishing at the junction of Cookridge Street and Great George Street. He starts at 7.17 and it would be fantastic if EBCC members could be there in our club kit to shout him on. We will then go for a club breakfast afterwards. Several have already booked days off school and work for this one in a lifetime event. We intend to arrive at the Town Hall by 6.30 and spread ourselves around as you see fit, meeting after it has finished outside the Town Hall at the Cookridge street side where we will then go for breakfast. Anyone who wants to meet before can meet at 6.30 at the meeting point for after.

5) Finally EBCC Kids Tops: We need an EBCC top for Rebecca so if you have any outgrown ones, please bring them back to club. She is a size 58cm chest and is 117cm tall. If anyone can help it would be appreciated.

If anyone has any old tops of any size, please bring them back to club while we wait the new kids kit. Designs will be sent off this week and once the proofs come and samples, we can sort out the new order.We also need a top for a 14 year old youth rider as well so if any Senior members have old tops they don't want, we can reuse them.

Ladies Session 19th June

Ivan is running a ladies only session at Richard Dunns on 19th June starting at 6.45 until approx 8.30.  The session is open to any lady and any abilitly do not have to be a club member.  First hour will be a fun Session on BMX skills with ramps and then will run a road session at 7.30.  BMX bikes are provided so bring trainers.  This is a chatty fun social session open to all novices.  Cost is £3.65.

Mike Olympic Torch Relay

Mike will be carrying the torch at 7.17am on monday 25th June from Leeds Town Hall to Infirmary Street. Mike is the first torch carrier from Leeds.  Please come along and cheer mike on wear your club top.  Mike will be there at 5.15 having worked out a route to get him to the Town Hall.  Please come and join us and we are going to all meet for breakfast afterwards.  It will be a historical moment for Mike.

Club has raised the cash to enable Mike to keep his torch afterwards.  We wanted to do this as a thankyou from every child that has come into contact with Mike since Mike started KSBC 14 years ago and has been at Richard Dunns every saturday since.

No club at Richard Dunns 16th June

There is no club at Richard Dunns - but you can  enter the BSCA grass track event in Hull.

Cycle fest is going on at Roberts Park in Saltaire.  Mike will be there with the rollers - please go along and say hi.  There are loads of other bike events going on BC races, BMX bandits, obstacle course.  This is a FREE event so please take your bike and helmet with you for a fun FREE day.

Club will be back on at Richard Dunns on Sat 23rd June.
